The university’s basketball team is perhaps the best-known team within the Ivy League, being nicknamed the ‘’perennial giant killer’’, which was acquired between 1967 and 1996, when Pete Carril was coaching the team, their most notable upset being in ’96, when they defeated NCAA champion UCLA in the tournament’s opening round, which was also Carril’s final collegiate victory.
